J.O.Y. Ministry (Just Older Youth)  A Ministry To and Through Seniors

The J.O.Y. Ministry is open to all who are age 50 and above.  It provides opportunities for fellowship, recreation, ministry, and continuing education for senior adults.  Meetings are at 11:00 a.m. on the first Monday of each month, and include a program and a meal.  Special trips, banquets, and other events are planned from time to time.  Mission activities provide an expression of the Christian faith we practice.  J.O.Y. folks enjoy serving lunch to our neighbors once a quarter with Richmond Friends of the Homeless.  For more, contact Charlie Owens or Nathan Taylor.

Central Connections

Central Connections is a time to meet people at church for fun and fellowship.  This ministry is staffed by seniors, for seniors.  Meetings are held on 1st and 3rd Tuesdays at 10 a.m. in the fellowship hall.  The day starts with announcements and prayer, followed by a brief devotional presentation by one of our ministers or lay members.  Following the opening session, groups disperse for fellowship around games of bridge, dominoes, or bingo (no cash, just prizes).  During the school year, lunch is brought in for $5 a person; in the summer, everyone brings his/her own lunch.  Join us and make a Central Connection!  For more, contact Estelle and Bob Davis, Rose Marie Cooper, or Nathan Taylor.

Centralaires

The Centralaires choir provides an opportunity for musical expression in ministry for seniors.  They present music to neighborhood institutions, nearby churches and festivals in order to share the love of God.  They rehearse in the fellowship hall weekly, on Mondays at 10:00 a.m.  For more, contact Nelson Taylor.

Hope After Loss

Hope After Loss is an ongoing support and social group for older adults living with significant loss, such as the death of a spouse.  Meetings are monthly (usually 3rd Fridays at 1 p.m.) and the content evolves, based on the needs of the group.  Participants gather for a support meeting one month and go out for a lunch social the next month (visiting a home or a restaurant, etc.).  Group meetings are facilitated by a pastoral counselor and socials are planned by the group.  To find out whether Hope After Loss is for you or someone you know, please contact Nathan Taylor.
